Sedation Dentistry

Dr. Garza is certified to administer nitrous oxide and minimal conscious oral sedation, which are great options for patients who have anxiety or who desire to be more relaxed, less aware, or less alert for their dental procedure.

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through the nose and helps induce a relaxed state. You will still be awake, but the calm or euphoric state patients find themselves in during nitrous oxide administration is often sufficient to help many patients feel at ease during their treatment. With nitrous oxide, the effects are only present during administration, which means you can safely drive yourself to and from your appointment.

For patients who want a deeper level of sedation and to feel sleepier during treatment, oral sedation may be appropriate. For this, we will prescribe an oral medication to take prior to a procedure; this medication can be combined with nitrous oxide. Patients who are treated under oral conscious sedation are not able to drive the day of the procedure.

We will have an evaluation and discussion with you to make sure you have no interfering medications or conditions prior to performing any sedation. We also monitor vital signs during sedation, as your safety and comfort are our priority. We also have mouth props available for you to rest your jaw, so you do not have to worry about staying open; all you have to do is relax!
